Tech Deals Tuesday: A Super-Bowl-Ready (And Streaming-Ready) TV for $299 and More

January 26, 2016 | by Paul

Welp. Super Bowl is coming up. Not for my team. Chances are, not for your team either. But you’re still probably going to watch it. Need a new TV?

This 40″ model from TCL is one I’ve been eyeballing. It’s been favorably reviewed by The Wirecutter, twice. Well, that’s the 32″ and 50″ models. I like the 40-incher. I already have a 32″ and would like to go slightly bigger, and 50″ is too big. So 40″ it is!

What do you get? 1080p and a bunch of ports: 3 HDMI, 1 USB, RF, Composite, Headphone Jack, Optical Audio Out. But the cool bit is the built-in Roku and the minimalist Roku-inspired remote.

TCL 40″ 1080p Roku Smart LED TV, $299

That $299 price just seems to be the price though it’s technically “29% off” list. You can save a few bucks by removing the Roku feature with this guy.

Complaints? The picture quality is supposed to be very good for the price, but you could pay more and get more. If you’re upgrading from an older TV, you’re unlikely to feel short-changed as it’ll be a serious step-up. I want one. I may buy one.
