Yesterday Jeff Bezos (the Amazon CEO. You know, Amazon, the company where people cry at their desks). Anyway… Jeff Bezos announced that their next-gen Kindle is almost ready. Details are coming next week.

Kindle price drops imminent!
It’s not often that we at Hacker Casual break news, but on the Kindle landing page there’s direct evidence that a Kindle price drop is coming.
The price drops hit. The prices will update in your cart at checkout! It’s a $30 price cut for the Paperwhite and a $50 cut for the Voyage. Not one of those fake price cuts, but an honest-to-goodness price-cut compared to prices at the time of this writing.
You may have to check back at Amazon a few times while we wait for them to update their prices. I’ll try to update this article when the price drops, but let us know because I’ll be at work like the rest of you schlubs.
The Kindle Paperwhite $89 (was $119, discount for Prime members only – applies at checkout)
With a great high-res screen and at a rock bottom price compared to the rest of the eReader market, the Paperwhite is the ubiquitous Kindle in the wild. There hasn’t been enough differentiation between the Paperwhite and the Voyage for people to bite the bullet and spend an extra $60. I would still pull the trigger on the Paperwhite even without the incoming price drop.
The Kindle Voyage $149 (was $200, discount for Prime members only – applies at checkout)
The Kindle Voyage is still a pretty neat little thing even though it’s remained unchanged since its launch in 2014. The Voyage is smaller and lighter than the Paperwhite. It also features a high res screen with adaptive lighting tech and has pressure-sensitive page turn buttons (ooooh).
>> Or checkout the old-school Kindle for $49 (was $79, discount for Prime members only – applies at checkout)
I have the old-school Kindle and I love it. I don’t see a reason to upgrade, but if I had to pull the trigger for the first time today I’d choose the Paperwhite. /2cents
