The 5 Shoes Every Man Must-Have in His Closet

September 6, 2017 | by Scott

Putting together a footwear collection doesn’t have to be difficult. You just need to pick a few pairs that you can wear for work or play. The good news is that we have rounded up for you the perfect checklist of shoes you should have in your wardrobe for all occasions. Here are the five shoes every gent must-have in his closet.

Athletic Sneakers

Assuming that you work out, you should invest in a good pair of running shoes. Select a pair that’s comfortable, durable, and that goes with your personal style. There are even a few running shoes that can be worn outside the gym, typically with a skinny jean, leather jacket and casual t-shirt. And, DICK’S Sporting Goods is having a big sale of running shoes so check that out!

Boat Shoes

When the temperature gets warmer that’s the time to break out your boat shoes. This stylish pair is extremely comfortable, give your feet breathing room and work for just about any casual occasion. Boat shoes are meant to be worn without socks, but you can buy no-show socks if your feet can’t handle being al fresco. Wear them with tailored short trousers, a linen tee, and your favorite hat.

Chukkas

Chukkas are ankle boots, sometimes called desert boots, that are ideal for the upcoming colder months. They are more dressy than sneakers so you can wear them for business casual events with jeans or trousers. Chukkas are extremely versatile and come in all types of colors, and styles like suede, mesh, and leather. Get your first pair in black or brown to see if you like them. These brown leather chukkas from Kohl’s are the perfect introduction to fall boots.

Brogues

Leather brogues are an essential piece of every man’s wardrobe. They’re perfect for when you need to look more put-together like for a wedding or interview. Brown ones can be worn for both the office and casual everyday wear. The black cap toe oxford style is perfect for fancy events. If you’re going for a business casual look, wear your brogues with tapered pants, a suit jacket, and a fitted dress shirt.

Loafers

If you’re into dressing more polished or even preppy, loafers are the way to go. Wear them in the summer when you’re tired of your boat shoes and slip-on sneakers. They’re incredibly versatile and a good investment piece for both casual and more dressy occasions. These ASOS Tassel Loafers in Tan are great for going from summer to fall weather. Style penny loafers (without socks) with a summer suit all in the same color, and wear a dress shirt and tie in your favorite patterns.
