If you are the type of guy who grew up with hair product choices ranging solely from shampoo or conditioner and feel completely lost among all the options you have available today, you are not alone.
Trying to figure out the difference between a hair wax and pomade leaves most guys feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Here is a quick guide to some of the products available on the market right now.
If you have straight or wavy hair that sometimes tends to get a bit unruly, then hair wax is the perfect product for you. It has a medium hold which means hair looks natural and smoothly styled. An added benefit is that the product adds loads of texture to limp hair type.
A tried and true favorite is the American Crew Fiber hair wax.
A pomade is very similar to hair wax, but it has a lot more shine and hold. This product works best for men with long straight or wavy hair and for hairstyles that do not need lots of movement. Pomade holds hair steady and offers lots of shine, and it’s the best product to use for that slicked-back look – think Mad Men.
Most product lines that have hair wax will include pomade in the same range. A firm favorite, however, for its extra hold is Uppercut Monster Hold.
Hair wax and pomade have lots in common. However, styling cream is completely different. Styling cream is a thick liquid that is best for men with curly hair. The product gives a light shine with no hold, but it does tame those unruly curls and frizz
An excellent choice is Fellow Barber’s Styling Cream, however, as far as styling creams go there are many good products on the market for men.
This product is something new on the market for men. Styling sprays do not offer any hold but do give limp hair texture and body. It doesn’t leave residue, and it’s the perfect product to create the just-got-out-of-bed look. Spray is easy to apply as it only needs a few spritz on dry hair and a quick finger run through for the perfect tousled look.
Still daunted by the range of hair product available for men? Don’t be. Hair products are there to help you look your absolute best. All you need to do is decide on the look you want, know your hair type, follow the above guide to choose the right product for you and have fun trying out different styles. You can try a different hairstyle every day of the week.
