Hoodies/Jeans/Sneakers: Video Game Tournament

September 18, 2017 | by Scott

If you’re into games like Dota 2 or Overwatch, then you know that there’s like a video game tournament happening almost every month. Maybe you can’t attend the actual tournament in person, but it’s still fun to go with your friends, and have a few beers, to a bar sponsoring the event. What are you going to wear? Your favorite look: hoodies/jeans/sneakers. Here are our favorite pieces to attend an eSports competition.

The Hoodie: Classic Full-Zip Fleece Hoodie, $32.97 (was $36.94)

End of summer sales are still happening, and this hoodie is part of the fun. Made from cotton and polyester, the hoodie is light and comfortable and even better perfect for this in-between weather going on at the moment. While you’re checking it out, keep an eye out for Old Navy‘s 50% off sale storewide.

The Jeans: 510 Skinny Fit Jeans, $39.75 (was $79.50)

Pair your hoodie with a unique pair of skinny jeans like this brightened by a heavy acid wash pair from Nordstrom. The jeans are true to size and made with cotton. Not quite white jeans, so you’ll not be breaking the “no white after Labor Day” rule.

The Sneakers: Nike Men’s Downshifter 7 Running Shoes, $44.99 (was $59.99)

These are a really good pair of running shoes, but they are also sleek enough to wear outside of the gym. The lightweight mesh uppers help your feet remain cool while the full-length rubber outsoles ensure secure footing. The only place I’ve seen these sneakers on sale is at Academy Sports, so get them there!

Hoodies/Jeans/Sneakers: Casual Office Style

August 21, 2017 | by Scott

When it comes to men’s fashion, you can’t go wrong with the tried-and-tested hoodie/jeans/sneakers combination. If you’re working in a casual workplace, then this is your go-to outfit. It’s not too formal and not as casual as, say, jogging bottoms and a t-shirt. If you’re looking for a good casual outfit for work, I’d recommend adding these pieces to your work wardrobe.

The Hoodie: Superdry High Neck Zip Hoodie, Oxblood, $94.50

This Superdry’s double zip hoodie is inspired by Mountaineering gear and features two front zip pockets and a soft, lined hood. The hoodie comes in several colors, but this oxblood version is the perfect color for the upcoming colder weather. Style it with black or gray jeans, a neutral color tee, and your favorite canvas sneakers.

The Jeans: Sid Skinny Stretch Jeans, Grey, $70

Grey jeans are awesome for the office! They are more versatile than regular jeans–you can dress them up or down–and mix and match with a variety of pieces already available in your closet. The skinny jeans pictured above pair well with hoodies, sweaters, polos, and plain white tees for work or after-hours adventures. Also, they are available in multiple colors!

The Sneakers: Nike Roshe One, was $79, now $49 at Dick’s Sporting Goods

The Nike Roshe One comes with embroidered eyelets, breathable mesh, and soft sock liners. With sneakers like these, victory will be yours. Team up these black sneakers with a hoodie (like the one on this post) and skinny jeans for a casual outing or for the office.

Hoodies/Jeans/Sneakers: April 25, 2016

April 25, 2016 | by Josh

Whether you’re working at a start-up, or working at a company that really wants people to think that they’re hip like a startup, wearing your hoodie/jeans/sneaks is part of the uniform. Do it wrong, and you look like you’re still living with mom. Do it right, and you look like a million bucks (in unvested stock options). Here are three items — a hoodie, some jeans, and a pair of sneakers — that are on sale for a great price and worth a look this week.

The Hoodie: Old Navy Linen-Blend Popover Hoodie, $17.46 (was $24)

Use code THANKYOU for 30% off your purchase at Old Navy sitewide, no exclusions.

This lightweight linen blend hoodie will work great on cool summer days, as well as for layering. This is about as basic as it gets, and that’s what I love about it. The only note to make is that this is a relaxed fit hoodie, so if you’re a slim guy you’ll have to be careful not to drown in it.

Old Navy Linen-Blend Popover Hoodie

The Jeans: Levi’s Red Tab 501 Straight Leg Jeans (Dimensional Rigid Blue), $46 (was $78)

We usually go for slim jeans here at Hacker Casual, but straight leg jeans are still a ‘thing’. These Levi’s are from Nordstroms, so along with the great price you get free shipping and free returns. These are 5-pocked button-fly jeans exactly what you’d expect in a 501.

Levi's Red Tab 501 Straight Leg Jeans Dimensional Rigid Blue

The Sneakers: Onitsuka Tiger Alliance Sneakers, $59 (was $100)

Use code SCORE at checkout for 40% of all clearance items at JCrew.

Available in lots of sizes in Blue, but the arguably more handsome White sneak has limited sizing. The Alliance has perforated suede uppers and a lightweight throwback running shoe.  I think it’s crazy how expensive they normally try to sell these for at over $100 for a sneaker. $60 is the cost of an entry-level non-discounted New Balance sneak, so this is much closer to a good price for these sneakers.

The Hoodie: Silk Cotton Cashmere Sweater Hoodie, $37.49 $44.99 (was $74.99)

Part of Banana Republic’s Extra 50% off sale, the discount is applied at checkout.

Yes this is the same hoodie from last week, but it’s awesome and there’s still sizes left and it’s even less expensive now! Here’s what we said last week:

We in that season where we’re going to be talking about the evenings being a little cool instead of it being cold all day. This sweater is perfect for layering on those cool evenings. Crafted from 75% silk, 20% cotton, 5% cashmere this sweater will make you feel soft and fancy. At $80 I’d feel obligated to be careful with it, but at $45 it’s priced at normal hoodie range. Still though, check out the washing instructions and don’t wear it for rugby.

The Jeans: Gap AUTHENTIC 1969 slim fit jeans, $47 (was $69)

Part of the GAP 40% off of your entire order, no exclusions sale. Use the code HAPPY at checkout.

They sit low, there’s a little stretch to them, and they’re slim. Great jeans.

Gap Authentic 1969 Slim Fit Jeans

The Sneakers: Nike Men’s Essentialist Casual Sneakers, $54.98 (was $64.99)

80s throwback design combined with that knit look. This shoe looks so fly, plus with it’s Phylon cushioning it should actually be comfortable. I might pull the trigger on these myself.

Levi’s is throwing a 40% off sale with a ton of great options. Use the code GET30 for an additional 30% off of the list price.

Onto the jeans: Dark blue stretch denim Levi’s for under $30. There’s not much more you can ask for here!

The Sneakers: Puma Future Trinomic Swift Chain Sneaker, $34.94 (was $55)

The Nike Flyknits are ubiquitous at this point. This is something a little different while still accomplishing the same goals. The Puma Future Trinomic Swift Chain… wtf, I don’t know where the name of the sneaker ends and where the colorway begins. Just jokes. “Puma Future Trinomic Swift” is the sneaker. “Chain” is the pattern. “Blue/Black” is the color. Boom. Lightweight and breathable is what this shoe is all about.

Hoodies/Jeans/Sneakers: April 4, 2016

April 4, 2016 | by Josh

Whether you’re working at a start-up, or working at a company that really wants people to think that they’re hip like a startup, wearing your hoodie/jeans/sneaks is part of the uniform. Do it wrong, and you look like you’re still living with mom. Do it right, and you look like a million bucks (in unvested stock options). Here are three items — a hoodie, some jeans, and a pair of sneakers — that are on sale for a great price and worth a look this week.

The Hoodie: AEO Vintage Baja Hoodie, $25+S&H (was $60)

A pale hoodie at a great price in time for spring. While this is a tad more expensive than the AEO non-Vintage Baja Hoodies (which are available in 5 colors at $20), the fabric has more interesting details and it’s a  seasonally appropriate color. It’s a heavier fleece hoodie though, so if you’re looking for warm weather spring-wear then the non-vintage is the way to go. This hoodie is not a slim fit, so take into account if you’re a slender guy.

AEO Vintage Baja Hoodie

The Jeans: Naked & Famous Weird Guy Dirty Fade $85+S&H (was $160)

Use the code FAMILY25 at checkout to get an extra 25% off. That’s 25% off everything sitewide at Friends & Family Sale at Need Supply Co.

This is a very nice pair of jeans at a great price. Whether you’re well versed in the land of raw denim, or you’re thinking about picking up your first pair of raws this is a worthwhile pickup. They start as a deep indigo (as you can see) and will fade over time to what the manufacturer calls “a dirty faded look.” Just don’t wash them, please. Or should you? Sizes are limited.

Naked & Famous Weird Guy DIrty Fade

The Sneakers: Nike Air Odyssey Sneakers, $55 (was $90)

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for old school Nike Airs. Maybe it’s because of all of the branding I was subjected to as a kid, but I like to think that it’s still just cool. I mean, you’re walking on air pockets! That was quite the innovation back in the day!

During the 1980s, Nike made some of the most classic running shoes in history, including the Air Odyssey. Now these sneakers are back and better than ever, designed with a thicker, flatter sole (for added comfort and stability) and a lightweight, breathable mesh and leather upper that looks sharp whether you’re wearing them with shorts on the track or jeans on the weekend.

The Bonus: Original Penguin Polos for $20

This event is over, but the OP Friends & Family sale is still going strong! Discounts are automatically applied at checkout.

Hoodies/Jeans/Sneakers: March 28, 2016

Whether you’re working at a start-up, or working at a company that really wants people to think that they’re hip like a startup, wearing your hoodie/jeans/sneaks is part of the uniform. Do it wrong, and you look like you’re still living with mom. Do it right, and you look like a million bucks (in unvested stock options). Here are three items — a hoodie, some jeans, and a pair of sneakers — that are on sale for a great price and worth a look this week.

The Hoodie: J. Crew Factory sunwashed garment-dyed hoodie, $35 (was “$70”)

J. Crew Factory is running a great sale worth checking out. Nearly everything is 50% off. Now, I’m not sure who has ever paid full price for Factory, but somebody has. You haven’t. Me neither. Use promo code EGGSCELLENT to get an extra 40% off clearance items and FREE shipping.

The Jeans: J. Crew Factory Sutton jean in dark rinse, $35 (was “$70”)

Same comments as above, but apply them to their best-selling cut of jeans. These guys are a great dark rinse. Other options available here.

The Sneakers: Nautica Men’s Scuttle Low-Top Perforated Sneakers, $30 (was $55)

Looking for a pair of white kicks to get you in the mood for summer? Check out these from Nautica. They’re even perforated for … your pleasure. Top is synthetic leather which will be easy to keep white.

The Bonus: J. Crew Factory shorts. Some of them are super short.

Go forth with caution. Especially at work.

Hoodies/Jeans/Sneakers: March 21, 2016

Whether you’re working at a start-up, or working at a company that really wants people to think that they’re hip like a startup, wearing your hoodie/jeans/sneaks is part of the uniform. Do it wrong, and you look like you’re still living with mom. Do it right, and you look like a million bucks (in unvested stock options). Here are three items — a hoodie, some jeans, and a pair of sneakers — that are on sale for a great price and worth a look this week.

The Hoodie: Everlane Pullover Hoodie Sweatshirt, $58 + S&H (never goes on sale)

Sleek french terry cotton knit hoodie, manufactured in Vietnam. Features a lined hood and topstitch seam detailing. If you click through to their site Everlane gives you a rundown of all of their costs in making this garment, and they charge what they feel is a fair price to purchase it. Awesome hoodie, awesome company mission.

Everlane Pullover Hoodie Sweatshirt

The Jeans: Custom Tapered Levi’s 501 jeans, $29.99 + S&H (was $78)

You know what you’re getting with Levi’s. Apparently Urban Outfitters doesn’t.

The picture below is from the Levi’s site instead of from UO (link above). UO has a great price, but all of their product images are of a deep indigo pair of Levi’s 505s instead of the Levi’s 501 CT. Below are the 501CTs, a straight leg jean with slight taper. Since now you know what fit you’re getting, you’re now informed enough to take advantage of the awesome price from UO without being super disappointed!

Levi's 501 CT Blue Dell

The Sneakers: Puma Smash Ripstop, $39.97 (was $55)

Low-top kicks with a textured ripstop nylon upper. Tennis-inspired (hence the ‘smash’ in the name), these are made for the street with just enough padding to keep your feet from getting too tired on your commute to work.

Hoodies/Jeans/Sneakers: March 14, 2016

Whether you’re working at a start-up, or working at a company that really wants people to think that they’re as cool as a startup, wearing your hoodie/jeans/sneaks is part of the uniform. Do it wrong, and you look like you’re still living with mom. Do it right, and you look like a million bucks (in unvested stock options). Here are three items — a hoodie, some jeans, and a pair of sneakers — that are on sale for a great price and worth a look this week.

The Hoodie: The North Face Surgent Half Dome Full Zip Hoodie, $44.99 (was $64.95)

I love me some mock neck hoodies. This fleece option from The North Face is comfy and available in 3 colorways. It has thumbholes for comfort (and to make sure your sleeves don’t blow away) and a little bit of stretch for comfort.

The North Face Surgent Half Dome Full Zip Hoodie

The Jeans: H&M Jeans, as low as $14.99

Your suspicions are confirmed: H&M Jeans aren’t great, they’re a step below Levi’s. BUT: $14-$20 jeans just isn’t a thing for other brands. H&M has a plethora of jeans on sale right now at that pricepoint, so if you were thinking about trying out a new wash or fit this spring it would make a ton of sense to buy a pair of H&M jeans that will last you 1+ years before pulling the trigger on something that will last you 5+ years. Pictured below are their Slim Regular Selvedge jeans, sneakily priced at $29 (what a travesty!).

H&M Slim Regular Selvedge Jeans

The Sneakers: Adidas Samoa, $54.98 (was $69.99)

With spring comes white sneakers. I can never keep my white sneaks clean in the city, so I need a little bit of color to draw attention away from the smudges. They’re full grain leather (for easy cleanup) with a suede overlay on the toebox. They even spent time making sure the sole of this shoe was dope. This throwback sneaker has more attention to detail than you’d expect on such a simple shoe.

The Hoodie: Old Navy Textured Zip-Hoodie, $22.80+S&H (was $44.94)

Use code SPRINGIT for 40% off of your first item and 35% off of subsequent items.

Old Navy has gone through something of a rebrand, and some of their stuff looks pretty sweet. Take this textured hoodie, for example. A slightly fitted cut, contrast stitching in the hood, a textured fabric. If I didn’t know better I would think that this came from a store that was trying to do something more than the most basic of basics. We see you, Old Navy!

Old Navy Textured Zip Hoodie

The Jeans: Gap 1969 Standard Taper Fit Jeans, $29.99+S&H (was $59.95)

Use code SPRINGIT for 40% off of your entire order.

Gap has a number of jean fits in limited sizing for a great price. The pair above is their tapered-not-slim cut which is also available for the same price in a darker wash.

The coupon code applies to sale items, so be sure to check that out. There are plenty of deals to be had.

Gap 1969 standard taper fit jeans

The Sneakers: Adidas Original Men’s Samba Sneaker, $45 (was $70)

A little spin on the Samba Classic makes this sneaker quite a bit more cool for everyday wear.  The difference is a tongue-length reduction so that you don’t have to fold it over your laces, the details are bolder including more robust stripes than the original, and the rear of the shoe got a 3-leaf logo. All things that add to the looks of the shoe, but the first two will negatively impact your touch if you’re trying to play a lot of soccer.
